Recording and transcribing

  1. Open the encounter and start transcription. Before the first start for that encounter, confirm the consent attestation. Maestra stores its date and time, not a consent method.
  2. Grant microphone access when requested. On web, you can record the microphone alone or add tab audio for telehealth. When sharing a tab, select the correct tab and enable its audio.
  3. Follow the live transcript and audio-level indicators. Native recording keeps the screen awake and exposes a non-identifying background status through the app banner, iOS Live Activity, or Android notification. Web capture depends on the open browser page and selected media stream.
  4. Pause and resume as needed. If the connection or app is interrupted, reopen the same encounter and continue; persisted transcript segments remain available.
  5. Finish when the encounter ends.

Only one transcription can run at a time. Starting another finishes the current one first. Assistant questions can be asked during live transcription and appear in the transcript timeline without becoming transcript speech.

Finishing starts a resumable processing pipeline. When each step succeeds, the encounter can gain speaker labels, a generated note, encounter summaries, and patient-data suggestions. The generated note and summaries are not guaranteed merely because recording finished.

A temporary failure can leave processing pending or one output missing. Keep the app connected and reopen the encounter to let eligible work resume. Review every generated output before using it as a clinical record.
